There are 78 cards in a tarot deck, 56 of those cards belong to the Minor Arcana. The Minor Arcana are suit cards that consist of 4 suits (Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles). In each suit lies 14 cards, 10 are numbered cards and 4 are court cards (page, knight, queen, king).
While the Major Arcana represents long-term experiences, the Minor Arcana touch on every day struggles. The 10 numbered cards in each suit represent different aspects of day-to-day life and the court cards serve as different personality types or sometimes even real people. Much like the Major Arcana, the numerology of each card is important.
The Suit of Swords corresponds with the element of air and represents challenges, power, intellect and courage. In reverse, the Swords represent suffering, loneliness, sacrifice and loss.
