The Tower - Upright
- Unexpected events, upheaval, temporary loss, revelation, catastrophic change, disaster, ruin, regeneration
The Tower is a card of turmoil and suggests that a catastrophic event is going to happen that is going to cause destruction in your life, leaving you feeling anxious and insecure. This card represents chaos in all its entirety and brings with it life-changing consequences. You may already be aware of what aspect of your life this chaos is going to hit and have possibly been waiting for it. The good news is that, although the changes it brings will be long-term, The Tower itself will only bring short-term chaos.
The Tower is often misunderstood to be a negative card, it is not. We are all aware that with destruction comes creation not long after. This card represents regeneration, you will rise from the ashes like a Phoenix and transform into a bigger and better you. These catastrophic events are necessary experiences in our lives as they force us out of our comfort zones and help us to grow stronger and wiser. We need these moments to enlighten and free us.
The Tower can also suggest that you are very defensive and have built walls around yourself as protection against external forces. This defensive attitude comes from years of difficulty and possibly even trust issues. The Tower asks you to break down these walls before it’s too late. You’ve pushed away a lot of good people because of your insecurities and if you don’t do something about it now, it’ll be too late. Breaking down these defensive structures will be a difficult process but it will be worth it in the end.
The Tower - Reversed
- Destroyed ambition, boredom, imprisonment, volatility, avoided disaster, resisting change, fear of change
The Tower in reversed form indicates that, although you know the destruction is coming and that it is necessary for your personal growth, you’ve been trying your hardest to delay this process. This experience is vital and you must go through this chaotic time in order to gain a deeper understanding of your situation in order to transition into your next level. The reversed Tower warns that you can’t resist this experience forever, whether you like it or not, it will happen, you can either accept it and grow from it or you can keep resisting it and live in denial.
Th reversed position of The Tower also suggests that you’re afraid of the change that is coming and the way it may affect you in the long run. You may be ready for a change but are not ready for the chaos and destruction that it may bring into your life. You’re not one to veer out of your comfort zone and your aware that this change will make you do just that. The reversed Tower tells you that although you don’t feel ready, now is the time to take a chance and progress. You might feel safe in your comfort zone but you can’t let your life revolve around it. Sometimes the things that make us comfortable aren’t always right for us.
