He is the tempting Devil on your shoulder talking you into things that you know could have a negative effect on your life. This card suggests that you’re feeling restricted within your life, as if you have bound yourself in chains and are unable to break free of them. You feel hopeless and your negativity is snowballing and beginning to affect your everyday life. Because of all the negative thoughts in your head, you’re constantly fearing the worst in every situation and person that you meet. The Devil warns that if you don’t break free from these imaginary chains, your negativity will manifest into actual situations and things will get much worse. To break away from the negativity you must try to see the positive side of any situation, even if it seems impossible.
The Devil also suggests that your becoming over-dependant on something or someone and are bordering addiction. When you become addicted to something, you lose all sense of yourself and your values, and will go against anything and anyone to get what you want. This card is telling you to break free from your addiction! The way to do this is to understand that the hold it has over you is having a negative impact on your life and if you don’t do something about it now, it will cause damage in the long run.
This card could indicate that you are over-investing yourself in a situation and are prioritising it over every other aspect of your life. You may have become so fixated on this idea of what you want to happen that you have become almost obsessed with it and are now in danger of missing out in other areas of your life. The Devil urges you to take a minute and check in to those areas that you are in danger of losing. This should make you realise the importance of having balance in your life.
The Devil - Reversed
Liberation, detachment, healing, severed ties, breaking free, exhaustion, shifted values, change
The Devil in reversed form indicates that you know that you’re in an unhealthy situation and you’re determined to break away from it. You know that in order to do this you must significantly change certain aspects of your life but you are willing and capable to do it. You know it’s not going to be easy but you are ready for this change to come. The reversed Devil urges you to take this opportunity to change your life with open arms and asks that you stay motivated during this journey. It’s not going to be an easy ride so you need to put your all into it.
When the Devil is in a reversed position, it asks you to look deeper into a situation before reacting to it. Things aren’t always what they seem and sometimes things can look bad on the surface but when you look into it, it’s not bad at all. This card serves as a reminder that circumstances change all the time and that nothing is set in stone, so when situations arise that we aren’t quite sure of, we must take a deep breath, keep a clear head and deal with it accordingly.
