Death - Upright
Unwelcome change, rebirth, change, renewal, destruction, transformation, end, new beginnings, transition
The Death card is the most misunderstood card in the Tarot deck, but in reality, it’s actually quite a good card to draw. It represents the ending of a major aspect in your life in order to give way to something bigger and better. The saying ‘one door must close in order for another to open’ pretty much sums up the interpretation of the Death card. You must completely move on from the past in order to move forward into the future. The Death card is often misassociated with pain because of its name, but the only pain you will experience with this card is if you resist the inevitable change that it brings. Now is the perfect time for significant changes to happen in your life. You must completely transform yourself in order to move on to the next stage in your life.
Death predicts that an unexpected change will soon take place and you will not be able to escape its grasps. This card asks that you not think of this change in a negative way, as it will give way to many positive things in the long-term. Be warned, however, that these changes could lead to loss, but you should look to the other cards in the reading for more information.
The Death card could also be telling you that you need to let go of the unhealthy habits and attachments in your life in order to go on to live your best and most fulfilling life. Death wants you to break away from bad behaviours and cut out the unnecessary things in order to make way for the good that are coming your way. Now is the perfect time to do that!
Death - Reversed
Stagnation, fear of change, boredom, depression, laziness, inability to move on, resistance to change
The Death card in reversed form indicates that a major change is about to take place in your life, but instead of welcoming it with open arms, for some reason, you’re resisting it. You may be scared of what this change could bring to your life or maybe you’re reluctant to make the sacrifices that usually come hand-in-hand with change. Although your fears are common and understandable, you can’t allow them to get in the way of the new opportunities that will soon be presented to you. If you don’t allow these changes to happen, in a few months’ time, you will feel stuck, as if your life is heading nowhere.
Death in the reversed position urges you to re-evaluate the way you look at change. Instead of seeing it in a negative way, try and look at the positive side instead. Although, you never truly know how change is going to affect your life in the long run, is it really worth missing out on the amazing opportunities that it might present? By flipping your perception of change, you will finally allow yourself to move forward in life and possibly start a new and exciting journey.
