There are many different kinds of energies coursing through our bodies and these different energies have different energy sources. These energy sources are the chakras. There are seven main chakras in our body altogether and these can all be found in the spine. They align vertically from the base of the spine - the root - to the top of the head - the crown.

In learning and understanding the chakras, you can learn and understand your own body and become in tune with it's energies. By connecting with your body through the chakras, you can then learn to balance and re-align them in order to become healthier and happier in life.

In this post, we will be looking at the third chakra - the solar plexus chakra - and how we can activate ours in order to live a more instinctive and powerful life. If you haven’t activated your root chakra yet, I suggest you start here before jumping to the solar plexus.

An Introduction To The Solar Plexus Chakra

The solar plexus chakra is located around the centre of your abdomen and is the third major chakra. The Sanskrit name for this chakra is 'Manipura' which translates to 'lustrous gem'. The solar plexus chakra is connected to the element of fire and is represented by the colour yellow.

The solar plexus chakra is the home of your gut instinct and is often known as the brain of the body. It represents your personal and will power, your ability to achieve and the faith that you have in yourself.

The solar plexus chakra is connected to your digestive system and governs everything stomach related. It also governs our gut instinct.

 

What Does A Balanced Solar Plexus Chakra Feel Like?

When your solar plexus chakra is balanced, you will feel confident in your ability to make the right decisions and a sense of wisdom and personal power.

The solar plexus chakra is all about your gut instinct - that feeling in your stomach when something is or isn’t right - and when this chakra is balanced, you will have the ability to understand and trust your gut. You will feel comfortable with yourself and your surroundings and because of this will gain a sense of balance and harmony in your life.

The solar plexus chakra represents our will power and governs the way we deal with situations so when balanced we will be able to make decisions with ease and will feel a lot more responsible for our actions. Always remember that it’s essential for your root chakra to be in working order for your other chakras to work efficiently.

 

Signs That There’s An Imbalance In Your Solar Plexus Chakra

When there’s an imbalance in the solar plexus chakra, your self confidence may take a major hit leaving you feeling depressed and unsure about your life direction. This lack of direction could cause confusion and make your emotions go into overdrive. You may also experience a drainage in energy that will leave you unmotivated and possibly feeling lazy. A blocked solar plexus chakra can also cause you to develop a victim mentality.

Another sign of a blocked solar plexus chakra is hyperactivity that often ends in aggressive behaviour and manipulative behaviour. If any of this sounds familiar, you may have a blocked solar plexus chakra on your hands!

What better way to look after your body - and chakras - than to fill it with good nutritional foods and drinks. We are what we eat after all! As the solar plexus chakra is represented by the colour yellow, our nutrition is going to be focused mainly on yellow foods, such as:

  • Yellow peppers

Crystals and stones are perfect for healing as they carry so much vibrational energy with them. Healing your chakras through crystals is more effective when in close proximity to that specific chakra. Wear your crystals as jewellery or place directly over the affected chakra for better results. Yoga

When it comes to healing your chakras, you can’t go wrong with yoga. Yoga poses are an effective way to gain confidence in, not just yourself, but also your surroundings, which is vital for solar plexus chakra healing. The best yoga poses for solar plexus chakra healing include:

  • Bridge pose
  • Bow pose
  • Upward Dog pose
  • Half Spinal Twist pose
 

Reflexology

Different chakras have different pressure points and it’s important to know where those pressure points are. Reflexology is another term for zone therapy and involves applying pressure to and/or massaging certain pressure points. Here are the solar plexus chakra pressure points in the body:

  • Across the base of the palm
  • The feet - the dent just below the ball of the foot 
 

Meditation

Meditation is another powerful practice to balance your solar plexus chakra - I mean, meditation IS medicine for the soul after all. If you’re a beginner to meditation, you might like to start with my post A Guide To Meditation. Here is a simple meditation designed specifically for solar plexus chakra healing:

  1. Find a quiet space where you will be free of distractions or interruptions - an outside space would be perfect, if possible.
  2. Sit comfortably in the lotus position and bring your palms in front of your body - around solar plexus area - facing each other. Bring the tips of your fingers together and allow them to touch lightly - making a triangle shape with your hands. 
  3. Close your eyes and take three deep breaths, extending them for as long as possible - really focus on those breaths.
  4. Visualise a ball of yellow light rotating near the stomach area - where the solar plexus chakra is located. Focus on this light.
  5. Chant the mantra ‘RAM’ while still focusing on that light.  This mantra matches the vibration of the solar plexus chakra.
  6. Now visualise that rotating yellow light turn into a ball of fire and exploding through your body. Feel the warmth of that explosion.
  7. Finish your meditation with a strong affirmation.
 

Experience Nature

The solar plexus chakra is ruled by the element of fire so what better way to heal it than to spend time in the sun. During the next sunny day, step outside and take in the warmth and power of the sun. Stay there for a while and allow that warmth to envelop you. Go for a walk, sit down on a bench and soak it in or maybe even lie down on the grass and sunbathe. The Sun is a great energy source but be careful as its rays can be strong. Always take precautions when spending a lot of time in it - sunscreen, hat and plenty of water!

 

Throw A Bonfire Party

Choose a dry and pleasant night, invite your friends or family over and throw a bonfire party. Sit there and watch the flames dance and imagine your solar plexus coming to life with those flames. Talk, sing, dance around the fire - whatever suits you - and simply be!
