How To Activate The Crown Chakra

Crown Chakra

There are many different kinds of energies coursing through our bodies and these different energies have different energy sources. These energy sources are the chakras. There are seven main chakras in our body altogether and these can all be found in the spine. They align vertically from the base of the spine - the root - to the top of the head - the crown.

In learning and understanding the chakras, you can learn and understand your own body and become in tune with it's energies. By connecting with your body through the chakras, you can then learn to balance and re-align them in order to become healthier and happier in life.

For a basic idea of the seven main Chakras in our bodies, take a look at Understand The Chakras.

In this post, we will be looking at the seventh and last chakra - the crown chakra - and how we can activate ours in order to experience the ultimate enlightenment and spiritual connection. If you haven’t activated your root chakra yet, I suggest you start here before jumping to the crown.

An Introduction To The Crown Chakra

Crown Chakra

The crown chakra is the seventh and last chakra and is located at the very top of your head - your crown. The Sanskrit word for this chakra is 'Sahaswara' which translates to 'thousand petalled'. This chakra is connected to all of the elements and is represented by the colour violet.

This chakra is all about our spiritual connection and is made up of pure conscious energy. This is what connects us to the Universe and everything around it. This chakra is also home to our personal conscious.

The crown chakra is connected to our brain, memory and intelligence - both educational and emotional. It is also connected to our spiritual awareness.

What Does A Balanced Crown Chakra Feel Like?

Balancing your crown chakra is no easy feat. It is thought that once you've balanced your crown chakra, you won't really be a human anymore. In doing this, you will have achieved nirvana.

The crown chakra is all about your Higher Self and your connection with the Universe and when this chakra is balanced, you will not only be able to access your intuition freely but you will be able to live in the present moment and receive inner guidance from your Higher Self (your spirit).  You will also be able to trust your inner voice and reunite with your true spirit.

The crown chakra represents our inner self and through a balanced chakra you can reach your full potential and and life a complete and conscious life. Always remember that it’s essential for your root chakra to be in working order for your other chakras to work efficiently.

Signs That There’s An Imbalance In Your Crown Chakra

When there’s an imbalance in the crown chakra, you may experience an inability or difficulty to learn new things. This can come from a lack of understanding of the world around you and also a rigid belief system. This also applies to spiritual learning - you’re either too cynical or too obsessive to truly understand what you’re leaning about.

Another sign of a blocked crown chakra is a constantly negative thought process which could cause major depression .  Your lack of understanding of life has lead you to become confused of what’s real and what’s not, causing irrational fears and thoughts to enter your mind. A blocked crown chakra can often make you come across as weak willed and disconnected from the world. If any of this sounds familiar, you may have a blocked crown chakra on your hands!

Affirmations

Affirmations are a very powerful - and underrated - thing. If you’re unfamiliar with affirmations, you should start with my post Affirmations That Could Completely Change The Way You Think. Using the power of affirmation to balance your crown chakra is definitely the right way to start. Here are some great ones to start you off!

  • I am connected to my Higher Self
  • I am part of the Divine
  • I am enlightened
  • I am divinely guided and inspired, my wisdom known no bounds
  • I am part of the bigger picture. I am the Universe! *Kyle Gray - Raise Your Vibration*

Food & Drink

What better way to look after your body - and chakras - than to fill it with good nutritional foods and drinks. We are what we eat after all! As the crown chakra is represented by the colour violet our nutrition is going to be focused mainly on purple foods, such as:

  • Blueberries
  • Purple Grapes
  • Elderberries
  • Figs
  • Plumbs

Crystals

Crystals and stones are perfect for healing as they carry so much vibrational energy with them. Healing your chakras through crystals is more effective when in close proximity to that specific chakra. Wear your crystals as jewellery or place directly over the affected chakra for better results. Here are the best crystals for crown chakra healing:

  • Amethyst
  • Selenite
  • Clear Quartz
  • Obsidian
  • White Topaz

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is an amazing healing agent and the fact that the chakras are thought to be connected to our sense of smell makes it so much better! Here are some of the best smells for crown chakra healing:

Yoga

When it comes to healing your chakras, you can’t go wrong with yoga. Yoga poses are an effective way to gain awareness in, not just yourself, but also your surroundings, which is vital for crown chakra healing. The best yoga poses for crown chakra healing include:

  • Lotus pose
  • Fish pose
  • Headstand pose
  • Tree pose
  • Corpse pose

Reflexology

Different chakras have different pressure points and it’s important to know where those pressure points are. Reflexology is another term for zone therapy and involves applying pressure to and/or massaging certain pressure points. Here are the crown chakra pressure points in the body:

  • Tips of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd fingers
  • Tips of the big toes

Meditation

Meditation is another powerful practice to balance your crown chakra - I mean, meditation IS medicine for the soul after all. If you’re a beginner to meditation, you might like to start with my post A Guide To Meditation. Here is a simple meditation designed specifically for crown chakra healing:

  1. Find a quiet space where you will be free of distractions or interruptions - an outside space would be perfect, if possible.
  2. Sit comfortably in the lotus position. Rest your hands on your knees palms facing up and touch your middle finger with your thumb.
  3. Close your eyes and take three deep breaths, extending them for as long as possible - really focus on those breaths.
  4. Visualise a ball of white light rotating at the top of your head - where the crown chakra is located. Focus on this light and imagine it turning into a lotus flower.
  5. Chant the mantra ‘OM’ while still focusing on that light.  This mantra matches the vibration of the crown chakra.
  6. Now visualise that glowing white lotus flower opening up and growing larger in your head. Imagine it open up your mind and reaching up to the Universe.
  7. Finish your meditation with a strong affirmation.

Commit To A Daily Spiritual Practice

The crown chakra is about reaching  enlightenment through a firm spiritual connection so the best way to heal it is to have a daily spiritual practice. Your practice doesn’t have to be crazy and time consuming  - just 10 minutes every morning or night will do. Add it into your daily routine to make sure that you stick to it!

Take a look at my daily spiritual practice for inspiration - like I said, you don’t have to go all out like I do!

Morning

  • 10 minute journal session ( with a cup of coffee of course!)
  • 20 minute yoga session

  • 10 minute tarot reading with the Intuitive Tarot Diary

  • 10 minute meditation session

The book is about raising your vibration - if you haven’t already guessed - and includes 111 practices to increase your spiritual connection through the 7 energy centres in your body. It takes you through each chakra with a few little practices and affirmations for each day. Take a look here - I promise you won’t regret it!
