A Guide To Essential Oils

A Guide To Essential Oils

Essential oils have blown up recently! I remember when I first heard about them, I was very sceptical that a bunch of oils could make such a difference in our lives. Boy, was I wrong?!

I suffer with anxiety, which I’m sure many people can relate to, and many of you who suffer with it will agree that it does get in the way of your daily life. I started hearing a lot about using essential oils to relieve anxiety, but as I said, I was sceptical so I didn’t listen.

Well, a few years ago I began to suffer with acne. I was dealing with major breakouts everyday and it was really starting to affect my self-confidence and self-esteem. I tried everything but nothing seemed to be working. Essential oils came back into the conversation and I decided to give them a go. I was willing to do anything at this point!

And, it worked.

Within a small amount of weeks, I had started to see a huge difference in my skin. It was clearer, brighter, healthier looking. It was a bloody miracle!

After seeing what they had done to my face, I started to take essential oils very seriously. I purchased more and started using them for my anxiety. Again, I saw a huge difference.

Ever since then, I have been a huge advocate in the benefits of essential oils, using them however and whenever I can. I’ve even introduced my favourite essential oil range to the Sacred Black Moon Store.

I know, the world of essential oils is a very confusing world. But it’s definitely worth your while to learn about how it can be applied to your life. So here’s a little guide to essential oils to help you on the right path!

What Are Essential Oils

Essential oils are aromatic plant extracts. There are many different methods of extraction, depending on the plant itself. Although they are 100% natural, they are highly concentrated and should only be used in small doses and handled with the upmost care. Essential oils are much stronger than the plant it originally cane from, so a little goes a long way as far as they’re concerned. Because of their power, essential oils must be diluted before coming into contact with skin.

How To Dilute Essential Oils?

Essential oils are very powerful and should be diluted before coming into contact with the skin, to avoid potential irritations and reactions. Diluting also allows you to get better use out of them.

The best way to dilute your essential oils is through what’s known as a carrier oil - a natural, plant based oil. Popular carrier oils include Jojoba, Olive, Grapeseed and Avocado.

Ways To Use Essential Oils

Essential oils are so diverse and can be used in a number of ways. Whether you’re using them for aromatherapy, healing or emotional balance, the trick with these oils is to find the method of use that works for you.

Here are some examples of essential oil use:

  • massaging into the affected area of your body
  • adding a few drops into your bath
  • pour a few drops into your diffuser
  • blend together for added benefits
  • add to your personal care products - skincare, body care, makeup
  • add to your cleaning products
  • put a few drops into your locket to wear around with you
  • mix with water and add to your oil burner
  • add a few drops into your favourite candle
