6 Life Lessons To Learn From Tarot
Seven years ago, I took the plunge and purchased my first deck of tarot cards. My knowledge on the cards was pretty basic. When you start learning the art of tarot, you’ll soon find out that knowledge comes with experience. I had no way of knowing how much my life was going to change just from a simple set of cards. I didn’t know what I’d let myself in for, but I wouldn’t change that for the world.
Over the years, I have learnt a lot of things from the cards - both about tarot and life itself. I can honestly say that I am not the person I was before I picked up that first deck and I’m rather glad for that.
The reason that I started reading tarot in the first place was to find myself, so to speak. I had no purpose before. No understanding of myself or the world. Tarot showed me all of this - along with a few other things, of course.
Here are just some of the lessons that tarot has taught me.
1. Your Intuition Is A Powerful Thing
Your intuition. Your inner voice. Your Higher Self. Whatever you want to call it, it holds a lot of power. And, tarot is a brilliant tool to access it, amongst many others.
When you learn how to read tarot intuitively, you open yourself up to so much knowledge and so many opportunities. The trick to this is to allow your intuition to guide you to what the cards are trying to tell you. All you have to do is learn the very basic card meanings and then let your inner voice do the rest of the work.
Take a look at our Intuitive Tarot Diary to find out how you can tap into your intuition through tarot.
2. Tarot Is Never Ending
Tarot is a magnificent practice that never gets old. Mostly because there is always something new to learn! Tarot has taught me that you can know a lot about something but often you haven’t even touched the surface. When you think you’ve learnt everything there’s is to know, something comes along that makes you question everything you’ve done so far. There are always new techniques, new takes on the card meanings, new decks that completely change the game, and so much more to learn. Tarot is a leaning journey that never ends, and I’m okay with that.
3. Be Confident With Your Practice
Everyone battles with confidence, even the most professional of tarot readers. Confidence is something that can’t be forced but it does come with time and experience. Reading tarot is all about your intuition and going with your gut, you must have the confidence to trust it. Again, this is something that comes with practice. Have faith in yourself, your abilities and, most importantly, your intuition.
4. You Won’t Always Like What You Hear
Tarot is that friend you have a love/hate relationship with because they tell it as it is even if you’re not going to like it. It loves a good wake up call from time to time, even when you don’t want it! But the truth is, it may not be what you want to hear, it’s clearly something that you need to hear. If you’re not prepared for that, then maybe tarot isn’t for you.
All guidance should be taken on board even if it wasn’t the answer that you wanted. I’ve heard of so many people who simply reshuffle the cards when they don’t get the answer they want. Honestly, don’t do it. It’s not going to work. You’re going to get a similar answer with your next reading, I promise.
Just last week, as I was doing my daily card, the Tower dropped out of my deck. Normally I pay attention to drop outs but this time I put it straight back in the deck and reshuffled - I don’t know why, but I did! Anyway, I cut my deck as usual and drew my daily card. Guess what came up? The Tower! I was gobsmacked (I’m being deadly serious). So, moral of the story, always trust your first reading!
5. The Occult Is Really Not That Scary
Occult practices are so misunderstood. The occult in general is so misunderstood. It’s completely been twisted into something that it’s really not by people who don’t understand or care to understand it. The occult has got nothing to do with the devil or conjuring up dark spirits, like my grandmother would have you believe. 🤦🏽♀️
Tarot, believe it or not, is considered an occult practice. And it’s not scary. Tarot can also open you up to other forms of divination, like palmistry, scrying, tea leaves etc. All great things that can totally change your life!
6. Always Have Faith
Tarot is not just your connection to your Higher Self. It also connects you with the spiritual influences of the Universe. And the Universe always has your back.
Whatever answers you get in your reading, there is always hope. No matter your situation, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. And tarot can be the helping hand that leads you to it. It is always showing you the path to your best life.
Have faith in your readings, because they are your divine guidance. Also have faith in the Universe because it is constantly working in your favour.
